Work has started at Vallcarca station on line L3 of the Metro

The work will take approximately 15 months

Work has started on the first phase of adapting Vallcarca station on line L3, which lies beneath Avinguda Vallcarca in Barcelona, for people with reduced mobility. The project will cost 1.7 million euros and is expected to take 15 months.

It includes remodelling the station concourse to allow two elevators to be installed to the two platforms.

The second phase consists of installing an elevator from the concourse to street level. This will be on the Putxet side of the station and will have three stops: one on the concourse, one on Avinguda Vallcarca, and another on Carrer República Argentina.

More than 90% of the Metro network is now accessible
At present, more than 90% of the stations in the Metro network are accessible. In Barcelona, work is currently underway on adapting the Jaume I station on line L4.

The work entails building two elevators between the station concourse and the two platforms
