On 4th May, 2015, the President of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, presented the St George’s Cross to twenty seven people, two of whom received the distinction posthumously, and 15 entities that have provided outstanding services to Catalonia, in support of the country’s identity or, more generally, in the civil or cultural sphere. The event took place at 7.30 pm at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
The St George’s Cross is one of the highest distinctions that an individual can receive from the Government of Catalonia. The distinction was created in 1981 with the aim of distinguishing individuals or companies that, thanks to their merits, have provided outstanding services to Catalonia. Any citizen, group of citizens or company can request this award to be presented to any individual or entity.
